Coronavirus Live Updates India : COVID-19 tracking app 'Aarogya Setu' for Android, iOS users
With the introduction of the new government tracking app, the Arogya Bridge, the Government of India is increasing its efforts to make reliable information about the novel coronavirus accessible to the public.
The new app is available for both Android and iOS users and can be downloaded from the Play Store or Apple Pal's App Store. According to the application's description, it aims to "increase" efforts to "proactively" inform citizens about "best advice and relevant advice regarding the contents of COVD-19".
The health bridge helps users know if they are at risk of getting infected with a coronavirus, if they have been deliberately or inadvertently exposed to someone who has been positively tested with COVID-19.
The application was first spotted by NextWeb, noting that Aargia Bridge uses a government database of infected people to work. It was developed by the National Informatics Center, which falls under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeetY).
The Health Bridge supports up to 11 different Indian languages, including Hindi and English, and location and Bluetooth access are required to determine if you have recently been exposed to a Covid-19 positive patient. People have to register their mobile number before using the health bridge app.
The app also asks users for their credentials, but that step is optional. The government also claims that the data stored on the application is "encrypted" and does not share it with any third-party vendors. The app lets you know if you're in a safe place. Android users will also get live tweets from the Ministry of Health.
In the past few weeks, both the central and state governments have launched coronavirus-related applications to prevent the spread of fake information about pandemics in the country.
